KRU eliminated Sentinels from the VCT Champions 2021 tournament on Monday in a massive upset. The victory took place in the final elimination match for group B, which means KRU will advance to the quarterfinals, while Sentinels are going home. This is the earliest tournament elimination in the brief history of the Sentinels VALORANT team.
NA's Sentinels were the heavy favorite coming into the match against Latam KRU, considering they won the first Iceland major earlier this year and have been considered a VALORANT powerhouse over the past year of competition. Sentinels started out strong in Monday's match, taking the first map, but KRU was able to narrowly secure the next two maps to claim the series for Latin America.
"It's a really big deal for us," explained NagZ in the post-game interview. "We have been here since Iceland, and we passed Berlin first stage, and now to be able to perform like this, to show our potential and show we can beat and play against the best teams in the world, it's an amazing experience."
KRU will join Team Liquid in advancing to the quarterfinals for Group B. They will face Fnatic in their first bracket match. Given KRU's performance on Monday, it would be foolish to count them out.
