In a post on the former-World Champion's social media on Monday, Bae "Bang" Jun-sik indicated that he will be retiring from competition, choosing to fulfill his mandatory military service. His most recent games were played with Afreeca Freecs, a team he earned a 0-4 record in KeSPA Cup 2020, and a 5-13 record in LCK 2021 Spring. Bang was eventually replaced by Han "Leo" Gyeo-re and moved to the substitute position, until he eventually late this year. 

"Walking in one direction of a professional gamer with my experience in League of Legends, I was able to form many valuable relationships, accumulate precious memories and make various achievements in my lifetime," Bang stated in the retirement post. "These experiences are something that I feel blessed and most grateful for. I know that in the future, there will be totally new things and experiences that are going to be totally different from the world I have been but will take my past experiences and achievements as a cornerstone in moving forward."

Bang's career spans almost a decade. He originally competed with smaller teams such as NaJin Shield and Xenics Blast, before being picked up by SK Telecom T1 — playing on the sister team to Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok. He went on to pair up with Faker and created one of the most dominant dynasties in the game's history. With Bang, SK Telecom T1 won two World Championships, another run to the finals, an IEM World Championship, as well as several domestic titles. After Bang went overseas to play in the LCS — competing with 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses, before returning to his last team with Afreeca Freecs. He retires one of the most successful players in history.
