Evil Geniuses has announced the signing of star North American support Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme. Vulcan debuted in the LCS with Clutch Gaming in 2018 and has played for Cloud9 for the past two seasons. Vulcan is Evil Geniuses' first official signing of the off-season. Yesterday evening, the organization said goodbye to mid laner Daniele "Jiizuke" di Mauro and jungler Juan "Contractz" Garcia, opting to promote EG Academy phenom Joseph "jojopyun" Pyun.
It's possible that EG may continue with Dennis "Svenskeren" Johnsen, who was EG's main starter before starting to split time with Contractz throughout last summer, as its sole LCS jungler, but reports have tied EG to acquiring Rogue jungler Kacper "Inspired" Słoma.
Lee "IgNar" Dong-geun started in the support position for Evil Geniuses in 2021, but it's possible the team may have wanted a domestic support player alongside homegrown AD carry Kyle "Danny" Sakamaki to open up an import slot for Inspired should the team retain South Korean top laner Jeong "Impact" Eon-young. Regardless of a potential Inspired acquisition, Vulcan is is at least as good as IgNar, if not better, and is fresh off of his second World Championship in three years.
In addition to Svenskeren and IgNar, Jiizuke's future is also unknown. Jiizuke experienced a career resurgence for the majority of his two seasons on Evil Geniuses, but his all-or-nothing style of play led to polarizing opinions and widespread doubt despite statistics and accolades continuing to prove his excellence. Regardless of how good Jiizuke was, it's understandable that EG would trust homegrown talent in jojopyun after Danny's amazing rookie split this past summer.
A report by Dot Esports connects Contractz to Counter Logic Gaming, who axed their entire roster and coaching staff from the 2021 season last night. Cloud9 is reportedly promoting C9 Academy support Jonah "Isles" Rosario in lieu of Vulcan's departure.
