In a shocking 3-2 upset over reigning world champions DWG KIA, EDward Gaming has won its first ever World Championship as an organization and became the third LPL team in four years to hoist the Summoner's Cup.
Following the conclusion of Worlds 2021, EDward Gaming's players were asked in a post-match press conference which champions they would prefer as their respective Worlds skins, a tradition established in League of Legends to commemorate and immortalize world championship teams.
EDG AD carry Park "Viper" Do-hyeon said that he'd like one of three marksman as his worlds skin: Lucian, Ezreal, and Aphelios, the latter of whom was a huge pick for Viper throughout the season and at Worlds 2021. Tian "Meiko" Ye, one of the true architects of modern engage support style, said he'd like one of Lulu, Nami, or the infamous Yuumi as his skin — all three champions are stylistically indicative of Meiko's role on EDG this year, which was heavily focused on enchantress champions.
Ezreal already has a Worlds skin in honor of Chang "Bebe" Bo-Wei, the AD carry for Worlds 2012 champion Taipei Assassins. Nami also has a Worlds skin in honor of Lee "Wolf" Jae-wan, the T1 support during the team's 2016 World Championship run.
Li "Flandre" Xuan-Jun has excelled on many champions throughout his lengthy career, but at Worlds 2021, the EDward Gaming top laner played almost entirely Graves and Jayce throughout the tournament. Flandre has previously stated that he plays what is best for the team and that he is far more flexible than his frequency of Graves and Jayce might indicate, but it seeems that even he is aware of the two champions who defined his Worlds 2021 run more than any other picks.
EDward Gaming mid laner Lee "Scout" Ye-chan, who was named the OPPO Most Valuable Player for the finals of Worlds 2021, seemed aloof regarding the selection of his skin, simply stating that he would choose one of the champions he played in the final against DWG KIA. Scout played four champions in the series.
Scout's Ryze was his most played champion at Worlds 2021, and his LeBlanc and Twisted Fate are fine picks as well, but he will be best remembered for his incredible performance on Zoe in the last two games of the series. When considering Ryze already has a Worlds skin, Zoe seems like the likely choice for Scout.
EDG jungler Zhao “Jiejie” Li-Jie gave a more ambiguous answer than his teammate, saying that he wants it to be a champion that represents him. While he only played it once in the finals, it's hard to imagine a better representative for JieJie at Worlds 2021 than Jarvan IV. JieJie played J4 nine times at Worlds 2021 — the most of any of his champions — including a seven game streak in which he went 5-2.
Overall, JieJie went 6-3 on Jarvan IV at Worlds 2021. The last game was EDG's first win of the finals against DWG KIA, who subsequently banned the Exemplar of Demacia from JieJie for the remainder of the series.
Of course, because J4 already has two Worlds skins — one for Fnatic jungler Lauri "Cyanide" Happonen at Worlds 2011, and one for Samsung Galaxy jungler Kang "Ambition" Chan-yong — it is possible that JieJie's most likely champion will be Xin Zhao, which he played three times in the Worlds 2021 finals.
