DWG KIA defeats T1 3-2, qualifies for finals of Worlds 2021 to defend 2020 title

After an epic five-game series, DWG KIA has eliminated T1 in the semifinals of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. DWG KIA will head to the finals of Worlds 2021, which will serve as the final challenge to overcome for the organization to become the second organization (T1 - 2015, 2016) to win back-to-back World Championships in League of Legends esports history.

DWG KIA and T1 came into the series already extremely familiar with one another due to many clashes this season in the LCK, most recently just a month or so prior in the finals of the 2021 Summer Playoffs. DWG KIA took that series, and naturally, came into the semifinals of Worlds 2021 favored and undefeated throughout the event at that point. T1, however, looked impressive in its group and quarterfinals sweep of countrymen Hanwha Life Esports, so a close series was expected.

Sure enough, the series between DWG KIA and T1 featured nearly everything LoL esports fans have come to expect of a quality best-of-five series. LeBlanc, a premiere mid lane pick in the Worlds 2021 meta, was brought to new heights by DWG KIA's Heo "ShowMaker" Su. Jhin, a fringe meta AD carry pick, went 4-0 in the first four games of the series and had to be banned.

T1 support Ryu "Keria" Min-seok's Zilean was the innovation needed to send T1 to match point 2-1, but behind an otherworldly LeBlanc performance by ShowMaker in game 4, DWG tied the series up to force a game 5.

Keria went back to the Zilean in game 5, but throughout the series, proactivity had dictated the winner of each game, and the final game was no different.

T1 was able to trade with DWG KIA throughout the early game, but DK, slowly but surely, started gaining a bit more than T1 with each trade. It looked as if T1 shifted the momentum back in the mid game with a teamfight win despite being down a smidge of gold, but a botched attempt to secure Baron Nashor, in large part due to ShowMaker's excellent play on his first Zoe game of 2021,  gave DWG KIA the time they needed to regain control and win the game in just over 30 minutes.

DWG KIA will now wait in the finals of Worlds 2021 to see if will be facing fellow LCK representative Gen.G, or if it will be LPL champion EDward Gaming who will try and deny DK its second consecutive World Championship title.
