Riot released a new State of the Agents update on Monday, and as part of that new update, they revealed new information about VALORANT's 17th Agent. Among the information provided in the post, they revealed that the next agent will be a Sentinel with a focus on "mechanical outplays" and gunplay.
"We took a step back and thought about different ways to provide another Sentinel to the roster," explained character producer John Goscicki. "A Sentinel that focuses on mechanical outplays, with an additional focus of gunplay into the mix for an extra flourish. We won’t reveal much more, just know that once you achieve that dream moment, it will be magnifique!"
The new character will be the fourth Sentinel added to the game, following Sage, Cypher, and Killjoy.
This is the latest drip of information from Riot about the upcoming agent. Today's information reveal also confirmed that the next character will likely be French, a fact that many already suspected based on the Fracture trailer which featured a French voice. Today's reveal's use of "Magnifique" all but confirms that the character speaks French.
In addition to revealing more information about our upcoming french-speaking mystery agent, Goscicki also discussed some of the other upcoming agent changes.
While he didn't provide anything specific about Yoru, he did confirm that they are working on adjustments to his kit. He also defended their decision to nerf Jett via the right-click on her ultimate and her cloud burst, instead of adjusting the directional air-dodge that many pros have argued is the actual utility that makes Jett so powerful and dominant in the VALORANT meta.
"The number of Cloudburst smokes she had was making it easier than intended to bail out of risky situations," they argued. "Reducing the number of smokes is intended to force Jett to use each smoke sparingly, with more calculation in mind. Ultimately, we believe this change should sharpen her identity."
Various pro players rejected this logic last week when they announced the Jett nerf, taking to Twitter and other online spaces to express their confusion at Riot thinking her smokes are the problem, not her ability to instantly dodge away after taking a sniper shot at an enemy. As a result, many top-tier players believe this Jett adjustment will do little to lower her pickrate.
