The Shanghai Dragons who infamously went 0-44 in the first season of the Overwatch League are now the OWL 2021 Season 4 champions after an impressive season and undefeated playoff run in the 2021 Season Playoffs. Dragons defeated Atlanta Reign in a convincing 4-0 sweep to claim the Overwatch League title on Saturday.
LIP was named the player of the championship match for his top-tier performance on Sombra, which choked out numerous Atlanta pushes throughout the finals. Sombra became a centerpiece in the Dragons playoff strategy, due to her extremely powerful EMP ultimate, which can win team fights even in the highest level of matches.
Shanghai had an excellent season 4 in the Overwatch League, winning both the June Joust and the Summer Showndown regular-season tournaments, and placing #1 in the overall season standings heading in the playoffs. Once in the playoffs, Dragons rammed straight through the winner's bracket to reach the Grand Finals, defeating Shock, Gladiators, Fuel, and then finally Reign to claim their title.
Atlanta Reign may have lost the Grand Finals on Saturday, but they still take home 2nd place, their best season placement ever. Reign was consistently excellent throughout the season, attending multiple mid-season tournaments in Hawaii, and making a spectacular run through the lower bracket to reach Grand Finals by upsetting Shock and Fuel on Friday. They are looking very strong heading into Season 5.
With that Grand Final match complete, professional 6v6 Overwatch has come to an end. The Overwatch League will be moving to a 5v5 build of Overwatch 2 in Season 5.
