Surprise! The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community doesn't believe Sakurai when he says that the next DLC fighter is the last.
Sakurai has told Smash fans over six times that the next DLC fighter is the last. Ever. The next DLC fighter to be announced will be the last addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster. But that hasn't stopped fans from speculating that one more surprise DLC fighter is arriving after the alleged last one — or an entire fighter pass.
This time, Smash players believe more DLC fighters are on the way due to a post from the official Nintendo Facebook page. So is it true this time around?
Are more Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters coming?
Nintendo posted something on their official Facebook page back in February that fans are now analyzing thanks to some strange wording.
Said Nintendo: "Looks like Pyra and Mythra have settled in right next to Shulk. With their addition, there will be 84 fighters on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster!"
But one fan pointed out that the official Super Smash Bros. website says Pyra and Mythra are the 79th and 80th fighters in the game. Others replied that Nintendo may have forgotten to count echo fighters in the Facebook post. But even with echo fighters, Pyra and Mythra would be 86th and 87th.
Basically, it seemed like the Facebook post was a possible leak that the last fighter would be a three in one fighter similar to Pokemon Trainer. This had Twitter user TyranoRex5 pointing to Akari from Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Is Akari from Pokemon Legends: Arceus coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a unique Pokemon title coming out in January of 2022. Unlike previous Pokemon titles, Pokemon Legends has an open world setting. It also has other elements that make it more of a survival game that's more complex than recent additions to the Pokemon series.
The starters in Pokemon Legends: Arceus are Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott. This means these three Pokemon could be the three new fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Decidueye has been rumored in the past since the popular Gen 7 Pokemon is the final evolution of a starter, similar to most of the other Pokemon featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
But of course, this is all just a rumor and more speculation. It's much more likely that the number used in Nintendo's Facebook post is just a mistake or a certain way of counting fighters that isn't known to most of the Smash crowd. But the inconsistent numbers have definitely left many fans confused and curious.
Some of the most discussed fighters to get the coveted final spot in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Master Chief, Doomguy, Crash Bandicoot, and Sora. On my end, I say keep discussing these fools. The more a character is discussed, the least likely it is that they will be announced as the final DLC fighter. Keep them out of the game. Save the spot for Captain Toad.
