Team Liquid has sent TSM to the lower bracket of the 2021 League Championship Series Championship in a 3-1 victory in the second round of the upper bracket. TL has guaranteed itself a top 3 finish in the post-season with the win against TSM, and in doing so, has qualified for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship.
TSM came into the series with a different strategy than previously showcased throughout the summer, opting for the red side of the draft to play top laner around Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon, who was given the counterpick on the red side to be put in a position to carry. Unfortunately for TSM, Huni was heavily pressured by Team Liquid on the top side of the map, and in running the same losing strategy twice, TSM found itself up against the ropes after the first two games of the series.
TSM bounced back in game 3, managing to crack a Team Liquid nexus to stay alive in the series, but TL shut the door in game 4 with clinical efficiency around the map. Team Liquid jungler Lucas "Santorin" Larsen, who has been on a tear in the post-season, was awarded player of the series.
Team Liquid is now 2-0 in the LCS Championship with back-to-back upper bracket wins against Cloud9 and TSM, and has punched its ticket to Worlds 2021 alongside 100 Thieves, who, after a first round bye, defeated Evil Geniuses 3-2 to qualify one day before TL.
The next matches of the LCS Championship will take place in the lower bracket with TSM facing off against Immortals and Evil Geniuses facing off against Cloud9. The losers of these two lower bracket matches will be eliminated from the LCS Championship, and the winners will play one another to see who secures the final seed to represent North America at Worlds 2021.
100 Thieves and Team Liquid will then face off in the third round of the upper bracket, with the winner qualifying for the finals and guaranteeing a top 2 Worlds seed. The loser of the last upper bracket will face off against the sole remaining team in the lower bracket, and with all three of these teams going to Worlds, the last two matches of the LCS Championship will decide Worlds seeding while crowning a champion of North American League of Legends.
