Fnatic has announced that it will play its first match of the 2021 League of Legends European Championship against Team Vitality online instead of in the LEC studio as planned. The adjustment will allow Fnatic to compete remotely from the team office save for top laner Adam "Adam" Maanane, who will be competing remotely from the rest of the team after testing positive for COVID-19. 

After Adam's test came back positive, Fnatic had the rest of the players and staff to get PCR test in accordance with the organization's internal policies, but no other test within the team's camp came back positive. Whether Team Vitality will face off against Fnatic in the LEC studio or also opt to play online in a remote setting has yet to be revealed to the public.

This is not the first time the LEC has been affected by COVID-19. Even as recent as week 9 of the 2021 LEC Summer Split, some teams opted to play remotely as a precaution following certain players on certain teams feeling ill. 

As it should, Fnatic has ensured the organization's priority is with the safety of its players and staff and that while Adam will not be able to compete in the same room as the team this weekend, assured that the young top laner was recovering well. In his rookie LEC split this summer, Adam showcased impressive form and seemed to effortlessly transition from winning the Ligue Française de League of Legends championship with Karmine Corp this spring.

This Sunday, Fnatic will have an extra obstacle now in competing against Team Vitality. Fnatic is still undeniably favored in the matchup as the third seed, but lost four of its last five matches in the Summer Split and will now be at a disadvantage for its first match of the post-season.
