The 2021 League of Legends European Championship Summer Playoffs bracket has been set, and while five of the six teams qualified for the post-season before the final week of the LEC Summer Split, it took the very last match of the split to decide the sixth and final qualifying team.
Five teams qualified for the post-season before FC Schalke 04 Esports became the first team to be mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the LEC Summer Playoffs. SK Gaming came into the final week of the Summer Split with a narrow shot to qualify, but was eliminated on the first day.
As a result, AST, XL and VIT all entered the penultimate day of the LEC Summer Split looking to secure the sixth seed in the post-season. Against and also one game behind Astralis, XL stared elimination in the face before defeating Astralis to tie for 6th place. Team Vitality also faced elimination, but managed to pull an upset against 1st place Rogue despite falling far behind in the early game.
On the final day of the 2021 LEC Summer Split, Astralis and Team Vitality faced off with the stakes of elimination from the post-season on the line. VIT won the match and eliminated AST, finishing the split 8-10. However, G2 played XL in the last match of the day, and an XL win would tie the squad with VIT, which would result in XL securing the sixth seed due to its 2-0 head-to-head record against VIT. However, G2 was triumphant, and XL joined AST, SK and S04 in elimination.
The first two matches of the 2021 LEC Summer Playoffs will be Rogue vs. Misfits and MAD Lions vs. G2 Esports. The winners of those two matches will play against one another, while the losers will join Fnatic and Team Vitality in the lower bracket. The undefeated team will wait in the finals for the rest of the teams to battle it out in various stages of the lower bracket.
