UPDATE 8/3: With a 2-0 win over Oh My God in its penultimate match in the 2021 League of Legends Professional League Summer Split, Top Esports has qualified for the post-season. Because TES secured the last spot on in the LPL Summer Playoffs, JD Gaming has been mathematically eliminated from qualifying.
UPDATE 8/2: Suning and Bilibili Gaming are the two most recent teams to qualify for the 2021 LPL Summer Playoffs. Top Esports and JD Gaming will fight over the final spot in the post-season.
With a record of 8-6, TES is ahead of the 7-8 JDG in the standings. JDG's last match of the Summer Split is against the eliminated Rogue Warriors, while TES' two matches are against post-season teams Oh My God and Team WE. If JDG can win its last game, it will hope for OMG and WE to beat TES. If both Top Esports and JD Gaming finish with 8-8 records, then JDG will secure the final spot in the LPL Summer Playoffs because of its win against TES this split.
UPDATE 8/1: Oh My God has punched its ticket to the post-season. Three spots remain in the 2021 LPL Summer Playoffs. With Invictus Gaming, LGD Gaming, Ultra Prime, Victory Five, Rogue Warriors, and ThunderTalk Gaming already mathematically eliminated from contention, the four teams fighting for the last three spots in the Summer Playoffs are Bilibili Gaming, Top Esports, Suning, and JD Gaming.

UPDATE 7/27: On the opening night of week 8 of the 2021 LPL Summer Split, LNG Esports secured its 10th win of the season in a 2-1 win over Rogue Warriors. As a result, LNG became the third team to qualify for the LPL Summer Playoffs following the qualifications of EDward Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix.
Original story:
The 2021 League of Legends Pro League Summer Split is nearing its end and the post-season picture is starting to take shape. So far, two teams have qualified for the 2021 LPL Summer Playoffs. EDward Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix are currently tied for 1st place with records of 10-3, and of the 17 teams competing in the LPL, are the first two squads to punch their respective post-season tickets.
FPX and EDG both have had impressive seasons, and alongside Top Esports and champion Royal Never Give up, formed the deepest top four of any region. This summer, TES has fallen to 6th, and while RNG has won its last six matches in a row, a poor start to the split has resulted in a 7th place standing and half a game back from sixth.
FPX and EDG have thrived. FPX has only continued to improve with the return of jungler Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang, who took the first three months of 2021 off from competitive play due to chronic pain, and mid laner Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang is having arguably the best domestic split of his career.
EDG's success has come with the return of a fan favorite in jungler Ming "Clearlove" Kai, who spent 2020 as a coach for the team before returning to competitive play as a substitute jungler for the 2021 season.
Yesterday, Clearlove was subbed in for his first game of the season against his former squad Team WE. EDG lost the match, though it seems that head coach Yang "Maokai" Ji-Song and coach Cheng "Corgi" Pin-Lun may keep starting Clearlove in place of starting jungler Zhao "Jiejie" Li-Jie for the time being.
As of now, 31 matches remain in the LPL Spring Split and four teams have been mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the LPL Summer Playoffs. At respective records of 4-9, 3-10, 2-10, and 0-11, Rogue Warriors, Ultra Prime, ThunderTalk Gaming and Victory Five will not be competing in the post-season.
