After losing its first match of week 4 of the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split to Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses is making a roster change. EG Academy jungler Juan "Contractz" Garcia will be starting in place of Dennis "Svenskeren" Johnsen in Evil Geniuses' match against TSM. The announcement was made by Evil Geniuses head coach Peter Dun via Twitter on Friday, June 25 following the conclusion of the day's LCS matches.
Evil Geniuses has struggled to a 4-6 start to the LCS Summer Split despite possessing gold leads for the majority of eight of those games. This includes its match against Team Liquid, which featured multiple moments where the game was in a winnable position for EG. In swapping out Svenskeren, EG assured that Dennis is still the starting jungler for the LCS team and that he would be starting against Dignitas on Sunday.
Evil Geniuses is giving Contractz an opportunity to play in the LCS because of his dominant form on EG Academy throughout 2021. After making his LCS debut with Cloud9 in 2017 and spending his next two seasons with Golden Guardians, Contractz has had his career repeat a similar pattern in both 2020 and 2021.
After parting ways with Golden Guardians, Contractz joined 100 Thieves Academy for the 2020 season, and after playing well, was called up to replace William "Meteos" Hartman on 100 Thieves' LCS roster for the 2020 Summer Split. Contractz found himself without a LCS team this offseason, but after excelling individually on Evil Geniuses Academy, has once again got another shot, albeit with the asterisk of it being a one game opportunity according to the announcement.
At a cumultative record of 14-14 throughout the 2021 LCS Season, Evil Geniuses is currently tied for 5th place with Dignitas.
