Earlier this week, Team Liquid announced the acquisition of the Misfits Heroes of the Storm team, comprised of Blumbi, Nurok, darkmok, Splendour, and HasuObs.
This sudden change of hands comes as a result of the players reaching the end of their contracts this month. According to the players in the AMA following the announcement, the transition was amicable. “The contract did expire, the re-negotiation didn’t go all the way as we wanted, and then we received an offer from Liquid,” one of the members simply stated.
Shortly after the announcement, Misfits owner Ben Spoont tweeted that the organization is looking to rejoin the scene in North America, likely due to the recent partnership between Misfits and NBA team Miami Heat. The most obvious suspects are Team 8, who is currently sporting the best play in NA, and B-Step, the second incarnation of Cloud9’s world championship team.
Team Liquid has a rich history in Heroes of the Storm, going all the way back to Technical Alpha. They are best known for their summer of dominance in Europe during 2015, in which the former Spanish squad led by the Durán brothers LucifroN and VortiX accumulated a wall of gold medals using creative and mechanically challenging strategies.
The new squad will fit the mold nicely. Known for their pristine macro play and affinity for off-meta picks, Liquid’s new team will continue to carry on the legacy of innovation.
The team is currently ranked #1 in Europe’s HGC premier league with an impressive 7-0 score. HGC is on break for the next few weeks during Heroes of the Dorm, but competition will resume afterwards as teams vie for a spot at the Mid-Season Brawl in June.
