UPDATE Apr. 28:
Bwipo confirmed on stream that he has not extended his contract with Fnatic.
"I don't want to be on a team like Fnatic if I don't perform well. [...] I have other options maybe lined up for me, so maybe a different top laner can do a better job in bringing results to Fnatic. I really don't mind stepping aside for that."
Original story:
First reported by Spanish esports media outlet Esportmaniacos, and confirmed to Inven Global by sources close to the situation, jungler Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek and top laner Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau have rejected contract extensions from Fnatic. The players’ contracts expire at the end of 2021.
Fnatic had their worst split since 2016, finishing fifth in the regular split with a 9-9 record. Even though Fnatic looked promising in their lower bracket playoffs start, Schalke 04 eventually defeated them in the second round, which placed Fnatic fifth once again, and the first time in three splits they failed to make the LEC finals.
Bwipo had an underwhelming Spring Split compared to his more dominant past seasons. If the reports are made official and Bwipo finishes his Fnatic stint after Summer, it will mark the end to an eight-split career with the legacy LEC org.
Selfmade was Fnatic’s main carry last year and the same was expected from him during this split, especially in tandem with Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer, but a departure from a carry jungle meta to a tank-centric one hurt the jungler’s core strengths.
Selfmade and Bwipo still have six months left on their contracts and they are expected to be a part of Fnatic during the LEC 2021 Summer Split as the team makes a push for yet another Worlds appearance.
