MAD Lions has completed a miraculous reverse sweep against Rogue in the finals of the 2021 League of Legends European Championship Spring Playoffs. MAD Lions has won its first LEC title as an organization and will represent Europe at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational.
MAD Lions looked finished after a game 1 loss was followed by a big throw in game 2 to allow Rogue to go to match point. Despite MAD's dismantling of RGE 3-1 earlier in the post-season, it looked as if Rogue was going to turn the corner.
However, MAD Lions' superior teamfighting allowed the team to thrive in chaos long enough to win game 3 against RGE's double-marksman double-enchantress composition to stay alive for game 4.
MAD continued its momentum into game 4, and tied up the series in a convincing sub-30 minute win to bring the series to game 5. Rogue returned to comfort in game for its primary damage dealer in AD carry Steven "Hans Sama" Liv, and weak-side king top laner Andrei "Odoamne" Pascu was made a point of focus on Renekton. Rogue jumped out to an early game lead in game 5 and continued to extend that lead, and it looked like it was all over for MAD in the finals.
Fortunately for MAD, the team's solo laners had other plans. Mid laner Marek "Humanoid" Brázda had played immaculately for almost the entire series, but the few mistakes he made had cost his team the game more than once. Humanoid put a stop to that, keeping MAD in the game despite a near-10k gold deficit with incredible teamfighting on Viktor. It was enough to allow top laner İrfan Berk "Armut" Tükek to make a few big plays on Gnar, and eventually, the damn broke.
Rogue was nearly aced outside of its base as MAD Lions stormed down the mid lane and finished off Odoamne and the RGE Nexus despite a 7k gold deficit. MAD outclassed Rogue in one way throughout the series: teamfighting, and in fully indexing into that strength, the team completed a miracle reverse sweep to win its first LEC title and to become the first team not named Fnatic or G2 Esports to represent Europe at the Mid-Season Invitational.
