The 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Spring Split takes place every Friday through Sunday. But this week, the community surrounding North America's premiere League of Legends esports league took center stage when 100 Thieves content creator Moe "Yassuo" Abdalrhman was sent a letter of cease and desist.
It was from streamers Belluh and Jackson "KatEvolved" Dohan, who claimed Yassuo made public defamatory statements and allegedly incited both violence and harassment towards them on his Twitch account.
Yassuo's team got in contact with the law firm behind the cease and desist, Foundation Law Corporation, only to receive a response from FLC that the letter was not sent or approved by them. While the logo used on the letter was FLC's emblem, the company is based in Vancouver, Canada despite the letter using an address in Los Angeles. Upon FLC confirming the cease and desist was inauthentic, Yassuo went to the address of the supposed law firm only to find a restaurant.
Even before the cease and desist was confirmed as a fake, the League of Legends community was skeptical of Belluh and KatEvolved's claims. Because Belluh and Yassuo were previously romantically involved until the fall of 2020, as well as KatEvolved's current relationship with Belluh, the objective validity of the claims was heavily scrutinized by the community. The scrutiny, of course, turned into uproarious mockery once the letter was confirmed inauthentic.
Yassuo discussed the situation on stream, stating that the behavior from Belluh did not come as a surprise to him. But the 100 Thieves content maven showed empathy for KatEvolved, stating he understood the position of the former TSM Academy mid laner because he had previously stood in his shoes and believes he is being manipulated by Belluh in the same way Yassuo claimed he was during their relationship.
"You've gotta think about it from his side," Yassuo said. "If you're dating a girl and she tells you all these horrible things about her ex, you're naturally going to just dislike the guy and try to flame him and get under his skin. That's just how it is. I understand that perfectly because when I was in that relationship, I was being fed the same lies about her ex... He's 19 years old. He's just a kid, he's dealing with this on his own, and he's being hard-manipulated."
As of now, Yassuo has confirmed his legal team is looking into the issue further. This story will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.
