Team Liquid has won the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Lock-In after defeating Cloud9 in the finals. TL started by winning the first two games convincingly before C9 came storming back, but at the end of the five-game epic, it was TL who came away victorious.
Team Liquid and Cloud9 entered the knockout stage of the LCS Lock In the respective 2nd seeds in Group A and Group B, but both ended up triumphing over their opposing 1st seeds Evil Geniuses and 100 Thieves to meet one another in the finals. Despite C9 barely defeating 100 by reverse sweep, TL jungler Lucas "Santorin" Larsen was confident after his team's semifinals win against EG that he'd be facing C9 in the finals:
"I think C9 played really well in its last best-of-three match against TSM in the quarterfinals," There were some issues, but the roster core the team has possessed is already really strong in general. C9's jungler Robert "Blaber" Huang and support Philippe "Vulcan" Laflamme work really well together..."
Santorin had a great series, winning all three of TL's games on flavor of the month jungler Udyr, but it was Barney "Alphari" Morris who took Player of the Series. Team Liquid's top laner dominated Ibrahim "Fudge" Allami throughout the series, and after a lost lane as Gnar into Irelia in game 4, Alphari took his signature Gangplank into game 5 and was the driving force in completing shutting down Fudge's momentum and Cloud9's along with it.
TL will head into the 2021 LCS Spring Split with some bragging rights, but C9 showed that it will not be without competition for the title of best team in North America.
