The recent addition of Probius after Lúcio is causing a lot of hype among many HotS fans, and the game’s strategical aspect is continuing to deepen as new heroes are being introduced to the Nexus.
Such an influx of new heroes, however, comes with early-stage chaos in which players are unfamiliar with the new meta. When new heroes appear in Hero League, it is sometimes our allies that pose a greater threat to us than the enemies, mainly because people are not used to playing with the new heroes and the new team compositions that sprout from them.
Here is the team that goes contrary to the general trends. MVP Black is the team that plays the new heroes fresh from the batch, quickly adapting to the new meta once the patches hit live. Even when all we saw from a Level 10 Nazeebo was Gargantuan, Wonho “KyoCha” Jeong chose Ravenous Spirit, which had just undergone a patch. In the Season 3 Super League, Jaewon “Rich” Lee showed notable Medivh plays that was among the top plays of the season. He also played Alarak in the finals, debuting him for the first time in the Korean HotS scene.
As Rich left the team, KyoCha had to transition from Flex to Warrior. While the fans were wondering if MVP Black would continue to surprise them with unexpected strategies, Sake and Reset came up with the curious pick of Chromie and Raynor in the Season 3 Super League finals against L5, the team deemed to stay strong against surprise picks. We had already seen it in western tournaments, but it was a rare composition in HGC KR.
MVP Black utilized these two heroes to near perfection and took hold of the game’s flow. Dragon Breath not only discouraged the enemies to pull back, but also prevented them from running away by closing in for additional damage. Raynor also steadily pumped his DPS, but L5’s outstanding teamfight toppled MVP Black. The match, however, showed that MVP Black is still solid in leading the meta and surprising people with their unexpected team compositions.
In the current state of HotS, in which new heroes are continuously debuting to the Nexus, there will surely be more and more cards that MVP Black can play with. We might see even more surprise picks from MVP Black in the Eastern Clash.
