Cloud9 has eliminated Evil Geniuses from the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Playoffs in a clean sweep. C9 will move on in the losers side of the post-season bracket and play its next match against the winner of TSM and Golden Guardians, who face off against one another tomorrow.
C9's first win against EG in today's series was by a narrow margin after nearly 50 minutes of play, but C9 loosened up and took game 2 in decisive fashion. EG edged out a lead in game three of the series, but C9 kept the gold differential close enough to eventual wrestle back control in the later stages of the game. AD Carry Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen was awarded Player of the Series for his superiority over EG's Bae "Bang" Jun-sik.
Despite being the most dominant team in North America over the course of the 2020 season, Cloud9 found itself in the losers bracket after being upset by FlyQuest, who had sent EG to the losers bracket in a 3-2 win last week.
FlyQuest's win over Cloud9 and Team Liquid's sweep of Golden Guardians has guaranteed both FLY and TL's qualifications for the 2020 World Championship. If Cloud9 can win against its next opponent, it will face the loser of FLY and TL's match, the winner of whom will guarantee a top 2 finish in the LCS Summer Playoffs and a top 2 Worlds seed.
Aside from Team Liquid and FlyQuest, three other teams have qualified for Worlds 2020: Top Esports from China's League of Legends Pro League, and both Rogue and G2 Esports from Europe's League of Legends European Championship.
