After a few shaky openings dictated by Golden Guardians' explosive early games, Team Liquid closed out all three games of the series to win in a clean 3-0, becoming the second NA team to qualify for Worlds. They will meet FlyQuest in the Summer Finals in the fight for the first seed at Worlds.
Team Liquid is coming off the org's best win-loss record in a League Championship Series regular season, going 15-3, and winning each game in the last four weeks of the split. With this 3-0, they take their overall record to 18-3 this Summer Split and mark an 11 game winning streak. They completely turn around their Spring Split performance which left them in ninth place and a 7-11 record.
They made this reversal after replacing star AD Carry, Yiliang "Peter" "Doublelift" Peng, with rookie, Edward "Tactical" Ra, and signing former caster and analyst, Joshua "Jatt" Leesman, as their new head coach. They have since looked much more on form, showcasing the talents of the multiple World Champions and Finalists on their team and will now attend their fifth international event in a row.
Golden Guardians will be sent to the lower bracket to face off against TSM for a rematch. They beat TSM in a clean sweep of their own just one week ago, followed by TSM sweeping Dignitas just days later. They are now in a "do or die" scenario, the next series loss marks the end of the season for the team. The winner of the Golden Guardians - TSM game will face off against the victor of Cloud9 - Evil Geniuses in the Losers' Final, and the winner of that series will become the final NA team to qualify for Worlds.
