On the 8th (KST), day 16 of the 2020 LCK Summer split took place at LoL Park, Seoul. The first match of the day ended in an upset victory, with kt Rolster taking down DragonX with a set score of 2-1 and ended their undefeated streak in the Summer split. The second match of the day was between SANDBOX Gaming and Hanwha Life Esports, with SB taking the 2-0 victory over HLE and continuing on the ‘Yamato Magic’.
Because of enteritis, TusiN was unable to start for today’s match against DRX. Smeb, the top laner for KT, filled his shoes for the match against DRX, and many predicted a hard series for KT. However, the unpredictable became reality, as Smeb picked Maokai in all three games of the series and was leading the frontlines during teamfights. Even during the laning phase, there weren’t any major problems against the bot lane that many consider to be one of the best in the world.
SoHwan and Ucal, the two players that were also starting for the team after being benched for quite a while, also contributed greatly to the team’s victory over DRX. In game 1, SoHwan’s Kennen managed to create a huge gap over Doran’s Camille in the top lane, and his usage of his ultimates were definitely huge threats during teamfights.
The 2nd match of the series was also a big match in another sense, as two teams at the bottom of the standings faced off against one another. While SB took the first set of the series, it was a game that clearly reflected HLE’s weaknesses. Despite HLE having a lead through early skirmish victories, the team was clearly disharmonious from the mid game. SB managed to use that as an opportunity, and with Route’s Aphelios performing exceptionally well in teamfights, the score was 1-0 for SB.
While game 1 seemed pretty even, game 2 was very one-sided. SB managed to snowball the game on the upper half of the map. Despite HLE’s laners attempting to recover from their deficit, the set was clearly a mid-jungle difference game, as SB closed out the series to be on a 2-match winning streak, while HLE still hasn’t managed to get a match victory in the Summer split.
