Today, Blizzard released a mock interview with “Efi Oladele”, a robotics scientist from the Overwatch universe, as a teaser for their newest hero addition.
As with all things, Blizzard is at the front of the pack when it comes to innovation and creativity. Rather than a traditional announcement or a big reveal, the video game veterans revel in revealing small bits of information in unique ways, just as they have since the early days of WoW.
Between Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch, Blizzard has been particularly creative with their announcements. Just recently, Zul’jin and Valeera were announced via clever tweets. Before them, Varian and Ragnaros were revealed in an epic cinematic at BlizzCon. Speaking of BlizzCon, did you happen to catch Sombra hacking the main stage projector? And of course, let’s not forget Lúcio’s contributions to Overwatch and Heroes either.
While it’s not clear that Efi herself will be the newest Overwatch Hero—as noted by some Redditors, it might not be the best choice to have a small child who can be killed as a playable character—the mock interview contains several clues. As a robotics scientist, she might creating a robot to fight. After all, it is her dream to “build something that can keep us safe”.
Then again, the plot could take a more sinister turn. Her parting remark about flying for the first time foreshadows a classic tragic storyline. Does the plane crash? Do her parents die in the accident? Perhaps an Orianna-esque plot will emerge where her intelligence or personality is eventually housed in a robot body.
Who knows? Speculation abounds, but we can’t wait for the next installment in this new drama!
What do you think? Let us know if you believe Efi is the newest Overwatch hero or simply an innocent bystander!
