The first week of both the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split and 2020 League of Legends European Championship Summer Split has concluded, so let's take a look at the the Booms and Busts in the first week of Inven Global's Esports One Fantasy League of Legends league.
BOOM — Kumo — Evil Geniuses (LCS)
Colin "Kumo" Zhao came into week 1 as one of the lowest valued fantasy Top Laners in both the LCS and LEC at $220,000, but was solid on the weak side of the map for Evil Geniuses in both the team's victories. Kumo held his own on Aatrox against the likes of Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho in a solid win over 100 Thieves before setting up his teammates for success on Poppy in a walloping of Counter Logic Gaming. Kumo exceeded his perceived fantasy value to the tune of 43.39 points.
BUST — Broken Blade — TSM (LCS)
Sergen "Broken Blade" Çelik's carry performances were a highlight of TSM's Spring Split, but the Top Laner did not have much of a chance to rack up points in two games of Aatrox in TSM's 1-1 week 1. Not only were both games around the 25-minute mark, but also, Broken Blade was not the focus of either team.
Broken Blade's KDA after two games on the Darkin Blade: 1/2/4. Despite being valued $40,000 higher than Kumo at $260,000, BB's 14.46 fantasy points left much to be desired in the scoring department.
BOOM — Santorin — FlyQuest (LCS)
Lucas "Santorin" Tao Kilmer Larsen has been key to FlyQuest's success for over two years, and the first week of the 2020 LCS Summer Split was no different. The Jungler took Lee Sin against reigning LCS champion Cloud9 in a Spring Finals rematch, and despite the loss, had a respectable 1/3/8 performance.
Santorin ran rampant in FlyQuest's win over Immortals, going 4/0/10 on Kindred to help FLY split the week 1-1. Santorin's 45.46 fantasy points from the lower-scoring Jungler position is more than worth the $260,000 that was required to add him to player's week 1 lineups.
BUST — Jankos — G2 Esports (LEC)
Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski is an immensely popular fantasy pick because of how well he scores from the Jungler position in G2 Esports' wins, but the first week of the 2020 LEC Summer Split was not kind to the reigning champion.
Jankos looked solid on Rek'Sai in G2's first game, a win over MAD Lions, but his Lee Sin in the team's losses to Origen left much to be desired. A 2/1/6 Rek'Sai was massively diluted by a 0/10/7 Lee Sin, and Jankos scored far below his $360,000 cost value would suggest with only 16.51 points.
BOOM — Jiizuke — Evil Geniuses (LCS)
Evil Geniuses Mid Laner Daniele "Jiizuke" di Mauro was the highest-scoring fantasy player in both the LCS and the LEC in week 1. The Italian Stallion finished EG's 2-0 week with a staggering 14/1/8 KDA.
Jiizuke's 64.03 fantasy points were earned in two immaculate performances on Corki and Twisted Fate, far exceeding his cost value of $260,000. Jiizuke's performances also earned him the LCS Mastercard Player of the Week award, making him the first two-time winner of the award after securing it in week 8 of the 2020 LCS Spring Split as well.
BUST — FEBIVEN — Misfits (LEC)
Misfits exceeded expectations in the LEC Spring Split, but the start of summer has not been kind to the squad. The team opened the Summer Split with back-to-back losses to Fnatic and Rogue before securing its first win against Origen.
One thing that was unfortunately consistent about Misfits was Mid Laner Fabian "FEBIVEN" Diepstraten's low fantasy scoring. The veteran is usually a strong performer for Misfits, but his Zoe was not enough to secure the opening day win. His Azir went from bad against Rogue to simply decent in MSF's sole win of the week against OG. For $310,000, to say FEBIVEN was expected to put up more than a paltry 27.82 points is an understatement.
BOOM — Tactical — Team Liquid (LCS)
Edward "Tactical" Ra wasn't the standout performer of Team Liquid's 2-0 week in the LCS Summer Split, but the young AD Carry benefitted heavily from strong play by his teammates and did more in his part to secure two wins. On two games of Aphelios, Tactical finished the week 12/1/10 KDA against the Kalistas of TSM's Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng and and Golden Guardians' Victor "FBI" Huang. His 63.15 points was second only to Jiizuke amongst all players — an absolute steal at $210,000.
BUST — Doublelift — TSM (LCS)
Doublelift's first week in the Summer Split was a tale of two extremes. In his first game back with TSM since 2017, the veteran AD Carry struggled on Kalista against his former squad in Team Liquid. Doublelift faired better on Miss Fortune against Dignitas in TSM's second game, but TSM's total kill count against DIG was relatively low. Doublelift was deathless in TSM's win, but his fantasy score of 26.41 points was far below expected given his $280,000 value cost.
BOOM — Zeyzal — Evil Geniuses (LCS)
Support is the hardest position to rack up points in fantasy League of Legends, but Tristan "Zeyzal" Stidam justified his $200,00 value and then some in the first week of the LCS Summer Split. Zeyzal flexed his mastery of the enchantress support champions in the meta, first going 1/1/18 on Yuumi in Evil Geniuses' win against 100 Thieves and then 1/0/6 on Lulu against Counter Logic Gaming. Zeyzal's fantasy score for the first week was 42.22 points.
BUST — Tore — Excel Esports (LEC)
Excel Esports had a tough schedule for week 1 of the 2020 LEC Summer Split. The team went up against Rogue, MAD Lions, and Fnatic and failed to secure a victory against any of the three teams. It's hard to make anything happen as a Support when your team has fallen behind, and scoring is not bound to be high since all three of XL's losses ended around 30 minutes. Tore's cost wasn't incredibly high at $160,000, but an abysmal 4.34 fantasy score disappointing at any price.
BOOM — SK Gaming (LEC)
SK Gaming was the highest-scoring team in both the LCS and LEC in the first week of summer, and given its 9th place, 4-14 finish in the 2020 LEC Spring Split, it's not a surprise that the team's score of 62 points was far above its perceived value. SK Gaming suffered a loss to MAD Lions, but that was overshadowed by the team's two victories. A long, back-and-forth win against Origen and a clinical victory of FC Schalke 04 was more than enough for SK to exceed its $160,000 cost value.
BUST — Misfits (LEC)
Febiven's fantasy scoring struggles in the mid lane were symptomatic of Misfits' performance as a whole, but even in the team's single win of week 1, the scoring was relatively low due to the slower pace of the game. Misfits was valued at $280,000, but only managed 24 points across its first three matches in the 2020 LEC Summer Split.
