Kobbe released from TSM; will replace Bvoy on Misfits

With TSM's recent signing of the most decorated NA player, Yiliang "Peter" "Doublelift" Peng, their former AD Carry, Kasper "Kobbe" Kobberup, was left without a starting position. Today, Kobbe signed with Misfits Gaming to start for the team in the Summer 2020 League of Legends European Championship. With the transfer, Misfits also announces former AD Carry Ju "Bvoy" Yeong-hoon's departure from the team.

In TSM's announcement, they note working with Kobbe early in the process of Doublelift's transfer to the team, and that they "completely disregarded any financial considerations or conventional transfer buyouts that may have been better for the organization in order to allow what was best for Kasper."  With the Coronavirus causing global lockdowns and a short off-season between Spring and Summer Splits, there was a general concern for Kobbe's future.

Before joining TSM, Kobbe played for the European team, Splyce, from December 2015 to November 2019. Last year, he made it to Worlds with the team, helping them advance to the Quarterfinals, where they were upset by SKT (now known as T1). Kobbe and TSM had high expectations for their roster and performance, and after losing to FlyQuest in the League of Legends Championship Series Playoffs, the team decided to make a change.

Misfits themselves had a rather unimpressive 2019, placing 9th and 8th in the Spring and Summer Splits respectively, but have already begun to turn things around this year. Misfits Gaming stacked up their roster for the LEC 2020 Spring Split, betting on two LVP rookies, Petr "denyk" Haramach as support, Iván "Razork" Martín Díaz in the Jungle, with the addition of Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider as the team’s strategic coach.

With an interesting competitive history, Bvoy has played in three different major international championships, including the LPL in China, the LLA in Latin America, and the LEC in Europe. Throughout his time in China, he played with both eventual back to back World Championship MVP Junglers, Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang, and Gao "Ning” Zhen-Ning, as well as star LPL Mid Laner, Zhuo "knight" Ding. So far, the AD Carry has not made an appearance in his home country’s major league, the LCK. There has not been any announcement of his next team, but we will update the story.

In a statement, Misfits Gaming Head Coach Alejandro "Jandro" Fernández-Valdés mentions the community should keep up with Bvoy’s progress:“Working with Bvoy was both a pleasure and a growing experience for myself. His passion and dedication for the game, combined with his ability make him a player to look for. I’m thankful for the opportunity of coaching him and wish him the best in his next step.

Both the LCS and the LEC have seen exciting roster moves so far, making it for a highly anticipated split. If you are looking for more LoLEsports interviews and features, you can find them here.
