One of the greatest Bot Laners of all time, Jian "Uzi" Zi-Hao, is now a Free Agent after his contract expired with Royal Never Give Up yesterday, April 30th. He has played over 400 games with the organization since his start back in 2012 when it was still named Royal Club, only leaving the team for three splits in 2014-2015.
He has been inactive this entire 2020 season, playing zero professional games since Worlds 2019, but he's taken time off during the season for the last few years in order to slow the progression of his wrist issues and prolong his career. However, he has always begun practice and professional play leading up to and during the League of Legends Pro League Playoffs. This is the first year he has sat out an entire split.
This past off-season, RNG signed former League of Legends Masters Series Bot Laner, Lu "Betty" Yu-Hung, who played for the Flash Wolves his entire career until the disbandment of the LMS at the end of 2019. ON RNG, he placed first in the Demacia Cup in December, but the team fell to 7th in both the 2020 regular season and playoffs. He is a storied player with immense skill, and with Uzi's contract running out, Betty may have been chosen as his successor.
It is also possible that Uzi will stay with the team, and that they have either already worked out a new contract that hasn't ben reflected in the database yet, or that he and the team need more negotiation time. Additionally, even if Uzi wants to stay on RNG and continue his career, waiting until free agency to work out a contract could give him more bargaining power, and now that he has, he may be working on a deal now.
Inven Global has reached out to RNG for comment and will update this story upon further development.
