Overwatch League star Jay "Sinatraa" Won has announced a surprise departure from his team, the San Francisco Shock. Sinatraa, who led his team to the Overwatch League championship title just last year, will be pursuing a career in VALORANT, the first-person shooter released by Riot Games.

In a Twitlonger, Sinatraa explains why he reached the decision to leave his prestigious Overwatch career behind: "straight up just lost passion for the game. idk what the real killer was for me but maybe it was 2-2-2 lock maybe it was bans im not sure... i just know it was hard for me to log on to play and i didnt have fun in scrims/ranked at all anymore." He further asserts that the decision was not made overnight, but that it had been haunting him for a full month before he finally decided to pull the trigger.

Sinatraa's departure from the Overwatch League is seen by many as another significant step in the decline of competitive Overwatch, after a drop in viewership and an exodus of on-air talent marked the start of the year. Critics point out that the situation has to be dire when players like Sinatraa, who had about as good as a career as one could get in competitive Overwatch, decide to leave the scene to chase a career in a currently very young, almost nonexistent VALORANT esports scene.

Shortly after announcing his departure from the San Francisco Shock, Sinatraa revealed his new team: Sentinels. He'll be creating VALORANT content for the team, and compete in esports tournaments as the newborn scene grows and establishes itself. He'll be joined by Apex Legends pro Jared “Zombs” Gitlin, and Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan and Hunter "SicK" Mims who both have a history in competitive Counter-Strike. A fifth member is still being looked for by the team.
