Cloud9 keeps on rolling through the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series season. C9 followed up its sweep of 100 Thieves with a sweep of Evil Geniuses to secure its second consecutive appearance in the post-season Finals. Evil Geniuses headed into the series as the established second best team in North America, but Cloud9 made it clear that there was a gap between 1st and 2nd in the LCS.
EG did its best to make the series competitive by occasionally trading a kill or two with Cloud9. C9's game 1 win was slow by its standards, in large part due to resilient teamfighting from behind by EG, who held off Cloud9 for 34 minutes. The second game was much more typical C9 fashion, in which Mid Laner Yasin "Nisqy" Dincer led the team to a sub-25 minute victory on his signature pick, Zoe.
EG finally made mortals out of Cloud9 in game 3, capitalizing on early mistakes by C9 Jungler Robert "Blaber" Huang on Pantheon and didn't take the foot of the gas pedal in a sub-30 minute victory. By continuing to challenge C9, Evil Geniuses is only the second team to take a game off the blue behemoth. TSM was able to triumph over Cloud9 in similar fashion in week 7 of the 2020 LCS Spring Split.
Evil Geniuses did its best to ride its momentum into game 4, and match C9 blow-for-blow for the first 10 minutes. EG hedged their bets on a double Teleport play from its solo laners, but when C9 was able to turn the play, EG felt the deficit spent on the attempt at a bot lane party and lost control of the game. EG would continue to scrap tooth and nail with C9 throughout the game and fought admirably, but when all was said and done, C9 ruled the day once again.
Cloud9's guaranteed its top 2 finish with the win, which means Evil Geniuses will be sent to the losers' side of the bracket. EG will face the winner of FlyQuest and TSM to see who will face C9 in the 2020 LCS Spring Finals.
