After FlyQuest controlled 2nd place through nearly the entirety of the split, Evil Geniuses and 100 Thieves showed up in the closing weeks to tie them up. A couple tiebreakers later left Evil Geniuses the sole owner of the spot, granting them Cloud9 immunity. Meanwhile, after Week 9, TSM found themselves in sole ownership of 5th place, and Golden Guardians claimed the last slot after winning the mini tiebreaker tournament against Immortals and Dignitas.
Cloud9 were in first place throughout the split, and tied the LCS game record at 17-1. Behind C9 is EG, followed by 100 Thieves and FlyQuest respectively, of course. Those were the two teams Cloud9 had to choose from for their first opponent, and they picked 100 Thieves. Evil Geniuses will, therefore, face off against FlyQuest, which completes the first round of the Winner's Bracket.
TSM and Golden Guardians head straight to the Loser's Bracket, a new addition this year (that you can read more about here). TSM will face the loser of Cloud9 vs 100 Thieves, and Golden Guardians will face the loser of Evil Geniuses vs FlyQuest. After that, teams advance forward until they either lose in the Loser's Bracket, or play in the Championship.
