On Feb 9th, Activision Blizzard released the financial reports for their Fourth Quarter and 2016, which shows their net revenue being more than $2 billion.
Activision Blizzard’s net revenue, in accordance with Non-GAAP, is about 2.2 billion USD. This is about 46 percent higher than last year’s revenue.
It was a record-breaking financial outcome. Compared to last year’s statistics, the company’s total income increased by 50 percent while the operating income increased by 81 percent.
This dramatic economic growth is due to Blizzard’s latest FPS game, Overwatch. Overwatch had 4,100 monthly active users in Q4, which is the highest record for any franchise launched by Blizzard. Overwatch also set a new record of total hours spent in-game.
Until 2016, World of Warcraft was the main source of Blizzard’s income. But for 2016, more than 60% of the income was from games other than WoW, and 20% of that income is from platforms other than PC. This data shows that Blizzard’s multi-platform and multi-genre strategy has been quite successful.
Activision Blizzard has announced few weeks ago that they will be expanding into the toy business; Activision Blizzard has promised the customers that they will create a new department for consumer goods. They also said they will establish long-term partnerships with retail sellers and produce better consumer goods in order to provide the best quality for their customers.
