Eduardo “HookGangGod” Deno has parted ways with NRG Esports. The Fighting Game Community player and variety streamer was signed by NRG after rising through the ranks to become one of the premiere Dragon Ball FighterZ competitors in North America during the birth of the competitive DBFZ scene.

HookGangGod was fired from his job at a movie theatre for ‘playing DBFZ too much’ which landed him in the Top 10 of the game’s online leaderboards. After numerous elite showings at Next Level Battle Circuit, the premiere FGC weekly in New York, NY, HookGangGod was signed by NRG as its first Dragon Ball FighterZ player.

HookGangGod made the announcement regarding his and NRG’s parting of ways via twitter on Monday, wishing his former organization the best and thanking them for their support throughout his contract. Since his rise to fame in DBFZ, HookGangGod has shown an affinity for anime fighters like Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 and the Blazblue franchise. HookGangGod's tweet mentioned Granblue Fantasy Versus, which will premiere on the competitive circuit for the ArcREVO World Tour 2020.

In the inaugural DBFZ World Tour, HookGangGod solidified himself as one of the top competitors in the world, placing in the top 4 at Saga Events several times and defeating Dominique “SonicFox” McLean at the Summit of Power to secure the four star Dragon Ball for himself.

Alongside SonicFox and CYCLOPS athlete gaming's Goichi "GO1" Kishida, HookGangGod was one of the few competitors to snatch a Dragon Ball away from Ryota ‘Kazunoko’ Inoue, who came into the DBFZ World Tour Final Summoning with four of the seven balls.

HookGangGod has competed significantly less in the second competitive DBFZ season, and failed to qualify for the Finals of the second DBFZ World Tour. Whether HookGangGod plans to attend the Last Chance Qualifier for an attempt at the 16th seed has yet to be announced publicly, but given his dwindling involvement in the DBFZ community throughout the progression of 2019, a curtain call for season 2 by the former Summit of Power champion is unlikely.
