The LEC rounded up its best-of-one portion of the 2022 Spring Split on Sunday and locked its teams into place for the playoffs. The top six of the European league now advance to the playoffs, where they'll compete in a double-elimination best-of-five bracket to chase the championship title. The top four teams are seeded into the upper bracket, while the fifth and sixth-placed teams are battling each other in the lower bracket.
With a victory over G2 Esports to close out the Split, Rogue ended the Split with a 14-4 record and finished in first place for the second regular Split in a row. As per the LEC rules, the number one team in the regular Split chooses whether they want to face the third-placed or fourth-placed team in the first round of the best-of-fives. Rogue opted for the number four: Misfits Gaming. This means Fnatic, who finished second in the regular Split with 13 wins, faces old rivals G2 Esports.
In the lower bracket, Excel Esports—who make their first playoffs appearance in LEC history—fights for survival against Team Vitality. Vitality's run for the playoffs got nail-bitingly close, as it was only on the last day that the team clutched a top-six spot with a win over last-placed team Astralis.
The exact schedule for the first weekend of the LEC Spring Split playoffs is as follows:
- Friday, March 25, 5 PM CET: Rogue vs Misfits Gaming
- Saturday, March 26, 5 PM CET: Fnatic vs G2 Esports
- Sunday, March 27, 5 PM CET: Excel Esports vs Team Vitality
The next weekend, the second round of the playoffs will be played.
